Bird & Bird type #3
The Compassionate Expert
calm under pressure & engaging & a linguist
Prior to embarking on a career in law, Ella studied Medicine in London and worked as a doctor in the National Health Service. Ella applied to Bird & Bird for its renowned reputation in IP and life sciences as she initially thought she wanted to forge a career in IP. However, she ended up really enjoying her first seat in Banking and qualified into that department.
Before embarking on a legal career, I worked as a doctor in the NHS after having completed my Medical degree at University College London. After several years of working in the NHS, I decided that I wanted to move into a career in law. For me law provides the opportunity to work in a diverse range of areas in a stimulating, dynamic and international environment. Having worked as a doctor, I also wanted to continue pursuing a career that involved interaction with people. The skills and experiences I gained whilst working as a doctor stood me in good stead when starting out in my training contract as many of the qualities that I had developed during this time (such as time management and interpersonal skills) were transferable.
Prior to moving to the UK, I lived in various countries including Belgium, Switzerland and the USA. Having had an international background, I was very keen to work in a firm that had a truly international environment. Due to Bird & Bird’s strong established international presence, I have been able to work at the forefront of numerous international transactions and deals.
Bird & Bird also has a very collaborative and supportive culture. Everyone in the firm, from the trainees up to the partners, is approachable and friendly. Bird & Bird also fosters a culture where both your professional and personal development are strongly valued and encouraged, which is something that I value greatly about the firm.
